Forms and Conventions of Websites

Websites

Websites are created to advertise the movie that they are based upon, they all do this in similar ways as the research i have don't shows us. Each website all use cover pages, these help navigate round the website.

You can see both of these are similar, the one on the left has a video background if you go on the direct web page, with the navigation in the top right corner, the one on the left, has a poster back ground, with the navigation in the centre.

They all share information on the film such as the synopsis, which they all give a brief outline of the plot, and the characters with the actors names also. If you see an actor you like, you tend to watch there movies. Also if you like the synopsis, then you would also watch the movie.

Then they all offer images, which is kind of like a 'sneak peak' of the movie, the reason for this is that they need to get across small aspects of the movie so you can try and paint a picture in your head, when you do this, you want to see if your right, and if the picture you paint is a good one, you believe the movie will be enjoyable for you.
Each website also has the trailer on it, which is the main part, because a trailer is the main advertisement for a movie, for example, its on YouTube, Television,Web pages and other online video services.

The majority of websites also tend to offer downloads, these are usually things such as posters and soundtracks from the movie, or sometimes merchandise like T-Shirts which are like walking advertisement, because people who buy these clothes walk round in them and it can cause a knock on affect, and people say it from the movie. The posters are often used on people's wall, which when they have friends over, they can talk about it, and watch the movie.

Websites also like you to enter you email, which is handy for the website because lots and lots of people have an email and you can always be updated about the movies, and offers, and even if another one is coming out.

Poster Research.

The Eye

This film is about a young woman (Jessica Alba) who becomes blind due to a freak car accident, and she finds a doctor who can perform surgery on her to help her see again, however the persons eye she gets has a really bad background, and she begins to see things through the other persons eye, and gets let into the supernatural world.

This poster is very VERY simple, but it works, the reason for this is having one absolute specific central image that is very powerful.

Poster Research.

Sorority Row

This film is about 6 femal students who live in a Sorority house (student home). Things go wrong when they play a simple prank on a boy, by making a girl play dead when she has a fit, then she ends up actually dying when they pretend to fake bury her, she gets a spade smashed in her face because the boy freaks out. So they try and cover up there tracks after burying her for real, but they end up being stalked but a serial killer.

The man feature of this poster is the 6 girls faces that are all 'troubled'. Omce again they are all rather attractive. The order they are in could tell us something about the movie, however we cannot be sure as t oif they are in an order until we watch the movie.

The large house we see in the background we assume would be there sorority house, its on fire so it looks like it gets destroyed, but we are unknown as to how it has set on fire. Which is good because the poster is again leaving a question to the audience, in turn giving them the motive to watch the movie.

By naming a film SORORITY ROW is a little off the bat, because its a little un unusual, you would not normally see a horror film named like this, sororites are meant to be nice, this is why it the title works because its turning it on its head.

SISTERS FOR LIFE AND DEATH is a good slogan on ths poster becasue it gives you a good insight into the fils in terms of people will die and if your looking for a thrill, choose this film.

The Unborn

This film is about a young woman who looks after two young boys, at night, she has similar nightmares about the same odd dog, and the same young boy, she being to wonder why this could be, so she goes to a specialist about these dreams, and she finds out that her mother had a baby that died at birth, and she believes that this is the young boy in her nightmares.

This poster also has a central image, which is the female looking into a mirror and seeing a young boy in her reflection, or it could be her imagination, so we are unsure as to what or who she is seeing. She is also a female and she is very little clothed, this could be attractive to the male eye, because she doesn't look scary or bad. She looks like she is in a room, but we are also unsure what or where she is, which creates a lot of questions in our mind, which is what a poster should do.

By naming the film THE UNBORN we assume that the film will be about something or someone who has not yet entered the real world, which puts ideas in your head about what the film could be about.
EVIL WILL DO ANYTHING TO LIVE is a slogan that the poster uses to create more questions and more tension, for example it tells us that there is something in the film that is going to take action to come alive.

The over the shoulder shot helps you see her body language and her reaction in the mirror, this make the poster really memorable!

Poster Research.

The Ruins

The brief overview of this film is that a few middle ages men and women go a trip, they end up in a forest, and find a place to camp for the night, its shaped similar to a pyramid, but things go downhill from the first night, something in the Ruins is making the vines vicious, this film may not be a paranormal film, however i think its good to have variety in the research you are looking at, because it can help you stay away from being to simplistic in your approach to creating a trailer, this film is similar to paranormal because the vines are controlled by something we have no idea about.

This poster has one single focus, which is the strain in that women's neck and its also shown on her face, the way the woman is stretching her nick so high, gives us a sense of struggle, and the fact the film makers decided to use a woman to create a sense of venerability.

Having the vines coming up her neck makes the tension in her neck seem even more prominent, this also makes the viewer assume that vines have something to do with the film, however the poster doesn't give to much away about the whole film, which is why doing this is a good idea.

The background is very dark and mysterious, i think that this helps reinforce the struggle of the woman in  the background, it also helps the actual title of THE RUINS stand out because its orange on a dark background, putting the title in capital letters also helps it stand out.

TERROR HAS EVOLVED is a slogan on the poster which makes you assume that something is going to go wrong, adding this to the poster is almost like the 'chery on top' and makes you want to see what the film is about.

Evaluation of Website Research.

Websites i have looked at seem to be very similar on terms of content, they all include similar things e.g.(The trailer/images/downloads) however they all lay it out differently. I prefer the first website i looked out because it involves the audience more than the other, by using a game, and offering more things for the viewer.
Other webistes i have looked at are:

Saw
Paranormal Activity
Final Destination

They all seem to be very similar in content, but the layouts are all different.
